Bio Summary
My name is Sani Idris, a natural resources management professional with over 20 years of experience in research and public service. I holds a Bachelor of Science in Geography (2002) and a Master of Science in Natural Resources Management and Climate Change (2015), both from Bayero University Kano.
My work focuses on climate change, natural resource management, and sustainable agriculture, particularly in the fragile and climate change ravaged semi-arid environments. I possessed practical experience in field research, data collection, and supporting efforts aimed at improving environmental management and agricultural resilience using indigenous knowledge.
I began my career in 2004 as Research Scientist at the Jigawa Agricultural Research Institute, where I progressed through various positions and was appointed Director Research in 2022. My contributions include supporting research activities by providing meteorological and climate data information for evidence based decision making and planning, and also coordinating and supervising teams for soil survey and mapping for sustainable agriculture within the state.
Following the creation of the Department of Climate Change under the Jigawa State Ministry of Environment, i was appointed as the Pioneer Director to oversees the early development of the department, supports coordination of climate-related activities, and works with relevant stakeholders and partners to gradually strengthen climate change initiatives within the state.
